Wow, just watching Doc Oz. (You can do a search, the show is on Sept 19, 2014). And, he is talking about the new (and apparently controversial) way to prevent Alzheimer’s. Apparently (and this has been preached by Natural Doctors for a long time) it’s quite easy. Here is my own summary,
1 – MANAGE your sugar levels and keep them even, balanced and do not allow them to spike! Or stay high. We know by now that high sugar can be very detrimental to our well being in many other ways also. Such as to the kidney and the heart.
2 – How to achieve #1 is to cut down on all high glycemic carbs (even the healthy ones), and increase your vegetables. High glycemic carbs used to be known as the “starchy” carbs, like breads and pasta, too many potatos, and rice. Yes, even the whole wheat ones will cause a sugar high. So, portion control is your best friend to keep your blood sugars level.
3 – Eat your protein at every meal and snack… eat healthy proteins. As was said on the show, eat your proteins, but, don’t make them the star of your meal. Leave that for the veggies, the fruit.
4 – EAT healthy fats, don’t cut out the fats. Your brain is 60% fat content. And your brain needs fat! Use fats like olive oil, avocados, nuts, nut butters. (And, my own addition, omega 3 is an extremely healthy and essential fatty acid)
5 – Eat gut healthy pro-biotics. If you take yogurt, make sure it has the live cultures. They said on the show, the way you can test if YOUR brand of yogurt has live cultures, take a cup of milk, heat it up, don’t boil it though, and add 1 tablespoon of your yogurt. Let it sit overnight on counter. If in the morning your milk is starting to curdle, to get solids in it, then the yogurt is live! If not, try another yogurt.
PS, My Own Comments To This: Here are two products I have been promoting for a long time, and they are totally in zinc with the above goal. Both Omega 3 beneftis, and Probiotic benefits have been touted for a long time now.
